The Salvation of Vengeance

The Salvation of Vengeance (Wanted Men) - Nancy Haviland

Now that Kevin was almost out of their lives-if she could trust in what Vincente was telling her-could this light and easy interaction be what she had to look forward to? Was her life finally going to return to simple and boring?

I loved the first book in this series (I'm pretty sure everyone is tired of hearing me say that by now) so it was a no-brainer that I'd read the sequel. In the first book I fell in love with Gabriel and was really interested in both Nika and Vincente. This book while it concentrated mostly on Nika and Vincente it still had a lot of the other characters that I love.

I was really surprised at how fast Gabriel and Eva's wedding happened. I thought that it would be towards the end but it happens in the beginning. It is the event that basically kicks everything in motion. In the last book readers and Caleb and Eva are left wondering why Nika is married to Kevin. We find out why she is married to him and how much of a nightmare her life is because of it.

Nika and Vincente have stayed in each other's thoughts ever since their kiss in the first book. There is an undeniable spark between these two. They are both stubborn and try to fight their feelings because of things that have happened in the past. It is sad how neither of them thought they were good enough. It takes them a long time to finally be together (and I do mean long) and even once that happens they still have moments of stubbornness. When the two of them are together it is golden. I liked how Vincente called her 'babe' or 'Red' but I do understand how that might annoy some readers.

I did have a couple of problems with this book. At times I feel like the book didn't concentrate enough on Nika and Vincente. The book alternates between point of view and I feel like sometimes it spent too much time on the secondary characters' stories. I feel like this book spent a lot of time setting up for the third book which will be about Maksim. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for Maksim's story but I wanted more about Nika and Vincente. This book also seemed to drag a lot at times. The search for Kevin just took way too long that at times it felt like nothing was happening. With the search taking for ever and Nika and Vincente denying their feelings forever it just felt like readers were left waiting for something to happen.

I did enjoy this one (not as much as the first) and I really look forward to reading more of this series. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley.
