Deep Down Dark

Deep Down Dark: The Untold Stories of 33 Men Buried in a Chilean Mine, and the Miracle That Set Them Free - Héctor Tobar

Back in 2010 I was glued to the television watching the news coverage of the trapped Chilean miners. I just couldn't believe what had happened. So when I found out about this book I knew that I had to read it. With all the media coverage of what happened I thought I knew a lot about what happened but this book really have me a look into the lives of the miners.

This book is really good at explaining what happened but also telling you more about each of the miners. I really enjoyed reading about each of the men and their families. Certain things had been misreported back in 2010, like that Yonni's mistress and wife didn't know about each other when they really did, so it was nice getting certain things cleared up. The author received a lot of his information from interviewing the miners and their families and I feel like most of the time he kept the story balanced but there seemed to be sometimes where a certain person's opinions colored the story (I felt like the author seemed a bit more biased towards Yonni's lover and not his wife).

For those who were riveted back in 2010 with what happened then this will be a great read. This is also great for those who just want to know more about what happened.
