Threats of Sky and Sea
Sixteen years, I think again. The pain is only a dull knife this time. They undid sixteen years of my history in one night. Burnt it to the ground.
I have to admit that what first drew me to this book was its gorgeous cover, but once I read the description I knew I had to read it. I am always on the lookout for a great YA series to read and I'm glad that I found this series.
This book started off a little slow to me but the more that I read the more hooked into it I was and I just couldn't get enough. I liked Breena right from the beginning and enjoyed her depth. I couldn't help but feel for her when she finds out that all her life she had been lied to.
I really enjoyed (ok I loved it) the friendship/relationship between Breena and Caden. I liked that it didn't take over the story and turn this into some sappy Romeo and Juliet story. Towards the end I was just swooning whenever Caden showed up. I really can't wait to see where their relationship goes.
The secondary characters of this book were strong and quite interesting. I didn't really like Aleta at first but once she started to break down the walls she had built and started to be friends with Breena I grew to like her and also feel sorry for her. Lady Kat was an absolute bitch but boy did she make things interesting.
One of my favorite parts about this book was getting to read about Elementals. Elementals can control the elements (Earth: Shaker, Water: Thrower, Fire: Torcher, Air: Rider). I loved how Elementals were incorporated into the story and am interested in learning more as the series goes on.
I loved the twists towards the end as I didn't see them coming at all (well actually one twist I did see coming but the main twist I didn't). After what happened at the end of this book I can't wait to read the next book of this series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the galley.
